Celebrating great achievements in 2015…and preparing for another busy year ahead
December 30, 2015
Two Integrated Propulsion Systems (IPS) with Nexcelle technologies became a reality in 2015, with our nacelle programs for the GE Aviation Passport and CFM International LEAP-1C engines achieving new milestones during the past 12 months: flight testing of the Passport nacelle; and certification testing for both the Passport and the LEAP-1C nacelles.
In the fall, the first two GE Aviation Passport engines, equipped with their Nexcelle nacelles, were successfully installed on the initial Bombardier Global 7000 Flight Test Vehicle (FTV1). Seeing our product come together and perform flawlessly after years of development for this twin-engine business jet application was a great achievement for Nexcelle.
Early November marked the rollout of COMAC’s first C919 flight test aircraft, which is equipped with Nexcelle’s nacelles on the two LEAP-1C powerplants. It was another key accomplishment, and Nexcelle’s Shanghai team did a great job supporting our activities in China leading up to the unveiling milestone for this country’s new jetliner.
As our nacelle products move to flight test, the industrial phase also has begun. As a result, Nexcelle’s Cincinnati-based team has evolved with the appointments of the two newest Executive Vice Presidents from our parent companies, Kenneth Onderko of GE Aviation’s Middle River Aircraft Systems (MRAS) and Lionel Drevillon from Aircelle. This was followed by the addition of our first Director of Operations, Philippe Gassin. Also new to our team in 2015 are Bonnie Cook, Nexcelle’s Chief Financial Officer, Adeline Terrier, who took on the Contracts Director responsibilities, and Sophie Bryan, joining us as the Executive Assistant & Sales Administrator.
Nexcelle would not succeed without the support of dedicated managers from both parent companies who lead their discipline for each of our programs, acting on behalf of the joint venture. Their roles are essential to Nexcelle’s operations, and they deserve special thanks for their work which focuses on integration between the partners and day-to-day communications with our customers.
After an eventful 2015, it is now time to focus on 2016 and the exciting challenges this New Year will bring. The next important goals for Nexcelle will be the delivery of our products to support our customers’ needs for the final engine ground tests and the airframers’ flight test aircraft. I would like to emphasize our total commitment to “on-time” delivery performance and product quality objectives – essential foundations for supporting our customers’ flight test campaigns and initial production aircraft.
As 2016 dawns upon us, the success of our joint venture can only be achieved through excellent teamwork and highly-capable management. I am thankful for the dedication of our teams in the U.S., France and China – and ready for another great year ahead!
President – Nexcelle
