Arnaud Meillier has experienced the evolution of Nexcelle during the past five years, having managed both of its nacelle programs for joint venture partner Safran Nacelles – beginning with the GE Passport engine on Bombardier’s Global 7000 business jet, and currently for the COMAC C919 jetliner’s LEAP-1C powerplant from CFM International.
“It has been extremely gratifying and exciting to be involved with Nexcelle, benefitting from the two different cultures at Safran Nacelles and our U.S. partner, GE Aviation’s Middle River Aircraft Systems,” he explained. “On the French side, we often are focused on the processes and methods, while the American approach is more on the ‘why’ and the result. What gives Nexcelle its strength is the combination of the two.”
Meillier said it has been very satisfying to see Nexcelle’s growth and maturity as the joint venture advances from design and development to production and flight with its nacelle programs.
“In today’s environment, it is not often that a manager can be involved in programs from the early phases to seeing the product in flight,” he added. “I’ve had this experience in both the Passport and LEAP-1C nacelle programs, which is something that I very much appreciate in my career.”
Meillier’s dual passions – aviation and sports – began during his youth. For aviation, it started while attending the Paris Air Show with his father, who also was an airplane enthusiast. “When graduating from business school, I wanted to enter the aviation sector – and Snecma (now known as Safran Aircraft Engines) gave me this opportunity,” Meillier said.
He worked in a number of commercial and acquisition positions within Snecma and Safran Nacelles – both in France and the UK.
Meillier’s passion for sports has focused on three aspects: running, swimming and bicycling. He has participated in numerous races, including the Ironman Triathlon.
“Running is especially satisfying, especially since it is a sport that I can practice at almost any time, even when traveling,” he concluded. “It gives me the opportunity to step back from the day-to-day work challenges and to think. Often, I begin a run with a problem, and I finish it with a solution.”
